City court extends remand of former TN minister Senthil Balaji – ThePrint – PTIFeed

Chennai, Sept 3 (PTI) – A court here on Tuesday extended the judicial remand of former Tamil Nadu minister V. Senthil Balaji till September 5.

The DMK chairman was arrested by the law enforcement agency on June 14, 2023 in a money laundering case.

Chief Justice S. Alli, before whom Senthil Balaji was produced by the prosecution via video conference from the local Puzhal Central Prison, also extended his remand until September 5.

When the case came up for hearing, Harish Kumar (Witness 1), an employee of City Union Bank, who was previously its Karur branch manager, was present for cross-examination. Defence counsel Gouthaman examined him. Since the cross-examination was not completed, the judge deferred the date for further hearing of the case to September 5.

Balaji was arrested by the ED in connection with a money laundering case related to a cash-for-jobs scam when he was the transport minister during the then AIADMK government (2011-15). PTI CORR SA
