Uddhav wants to fight against INDIA partner in Jammu and Kashmir? Shiv Sena wants to fight for 20 seats in Jammu and Kashmir elections

Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections 2024: The Uddhav Thackeray faction is all set to enter the election campaign in Jammu and Kashmir, where legislative assembly elections are scheduled to be held this month.

The party will contest the election for 20 seats, said party leader Anand Dubey, against its two allies in the INDIA bloc, the Congress and the National Conference.

“After the abrogation of Article 370, elections are being held in Jammu and Kashmir and we are very happy. Shiv Sena has made a great contribution in abrogation of Article 370. We will contest elections here on 20 seats,” Dubey said.

Congress and North Carolina compete in the election under a seat-sharing agreement under which the National Conference nominates candidates for 51 of the 90 seats, while Congress enters the fray with 32 seats.

Voting will be held in three phases, beginning on September 18 and ending in two subsequent phases on September 25 and October 1. The votes will be counted on October 4.

On August 5, 2019, elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370. The central government's decision was challenged in the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court upheld the BJP government's decision in December last year.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray welcomed the verdict and wondered whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi would “guarantee” the safe return of Kashmiri Pandits to their former homeland.

He had also demanded that elections be held soon in Jammu and Kashmir as ordered by the Supreme Court.

“We welcome the Supreme Court's verdict. We had already supported the move when Article 370 was scrapped. We also welcome the Supreme Court's directions to hold elections by September next. We hope that the elections will be held soon and people will be able to vote in a free atmosphere,” Thackeray said.
