Suspect in 2019 quadruple shooting in St. Croix extradited from Florida and charged with murder

A suspect who was involved in a Filming 2019 in which four people were seriously injured, is back in the custody of the regional authorities.

According to a VIPD press release, Renaldo Philbert Jr. (spelled Reynaldo in court documents) has been identified as the suspect in a shooting incident at the David Hamilton Jackson Housing Community. Four people were shot in the incident, with one victim reportedly suffering a paraplegia due to the severity of his injuries.

Philbert was granted permission to travel to Florida after his arrest for the shooting. On the mainland, he was arrested in Orange County on kidnapping and robbery charges. He pleaded guilty to robbery with a firearm and was sentenced in April 2022 to four years in prison with credit for 409 days of time already served.

“According to VIPD, he was released into their custody after serving his sentence and extradited to the Virgin Islands on August 31, where he was promptly arrested for attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault and weapons offenses.”

Unable to pay the $100,000 bail, he was remanded in custody pending a hearing of his rights before Judge Douglas Brady on Monday. However, the court had not released details of the proceedings or the release order as of press time.
