North Bay News: 95-year-old suspect charged with driving scooter while under the influence in West Nipissing

A 95-year-old suspect from West Nipissing was charged with driving under the influence after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a traffic stop on August 30.

The incident occurred around 12:58 a.m. when the scooter blocked the roadway on Pine Street.

“Police spotted a slow-moving scooter parked in the middle of the road,” the OPP said in a press release on Tuesday.

“The driver was arrested for driving under the influence and subsequently transported to the OPP detachment for further processing.”

The suspect was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol but was released with a court date of October 3 in North Bay.

The suspect's driver's license was suspended for 90 days.

“The OPP would like to remind the public that if you see a potentially impaired driver on our roads, waterways or trails, you should call 911 as driving under the influence of alcohol never ends well,” police said.

“Please plan a way to get home safely.”
