Search for man after police operation on River Leven

Police in Scotland were called to reports of a man causing a disturbance on Stirling Street, Renton, at around 2.45am on Wednesday 4 September.

Officers are now trying to track down the man after he fled from police.

An hour later, at 3:50am, coastguards from Greenock and Helensburgh were seen on duty on the River Leven.

The RNLI inshore lifeboat from Helensburgh also attended the scene. No injuries were reported.

Investigations are currently underway to locate the man.

​A Police Scotland spokesman said: “On Wednesday 4 September 2024, at around 2.45am, we were called to a report of a man causing a disturbance in the Stirling Street area of ​​Renton.

“Officers were on site, but the man escaped the police and investigations to track him down are ongoing.

“There were no reports of injuries.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 0266 of Wednesday 4 September 2024.”

A UK Coastguard spokesman said: “Coastguard rescue teams from Greenock and Helensburgh assisted Police Scotland with a reported incident on the River Leven in Renton at approximately 3.50am on 4 September. The RNLI inshore lifeboat from Helensburgh was also on scene.”
