Investigation into the tragic death of kayaker Cory Chilvers begins

Cory Chilvers was found on July 31, three days after his kayak capsized at Wiggenhall St Germans near King's Lynn.

The incident triggered extensive search operations that led to the tragic discovery.

On Wednesday, more than a month after his death, an inquest into his death was opened at Norfolk Coroner's Court.

During a brief hearing, senior coroner Jacqueline Lake confirmed that the 18-year-old was born in King's Lynn and lived in Terington St Clement near the town.

She added that he was employed as a heavy-duty vehicle technician and that the medical cause of death was drowning.

After his death, his family members paid him touching tributes and described him as “kind, loving and funny.”

They added: “He was a great friend to so many and touched the lives of many more. He will be missed forever by all who knew him.”

The inquest was adjourned until January 8 next year.
