In an alarming incident that highlights the ongoing railway safety concerns, a Superintendent of Police of the Greater Chennai Police was arrested for allegedly harassing a medical student at Saidapet railway station in Tamil Nadu. The Superintendent of Police, identified as Kamal Kannan, was reportedly involved in the incident around 9 pm on August 25. Kannan, who was reportedly drunk, approached the student who was waiting for a train.

He reportedly started talking to her before molesting her. The student's screams caught the attention of other passengers, who intervened and handed Kannan over to the Railway Protection Force (RPF).

The RPF conducted an initial investigation before handing over Kannan to the Government Railway Police (GRP), who then seized the accused's mobile phone. Despite being directed to report for further questioning, Kannan did not turn up at the GRP railway station and has since disappeared. A search is currently on and a special team has been formed to locate him. Efforts to locate him at his residence have been unsuccessful.

Following these allegations, the Chennai Police suspended Kannan from duty. This case has further heightened surveillance of railway safety across the region.
