USA: Several students injured in shooting at high school in Georgia, victims expected

A suspect was arrested after reports emerged of a shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, about 70 kilometers northeast of Atlanta, the state capital. Several students are said to have been injured and authorities fear there could be more victims, US media reports.

Footage shared on social media showed police and ambulances rushing to the high school as panicked parents arrived at the scene to pick up their children.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said on X that state authorities were responding to the incident.

“I have deployed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state,” Kemp said.

“We will continue to work with local, state and federal partners as we gather information and continue to respond to this situation.”
