Sony takes Concord offline after disastrous launch on September 6

Sony takes Unity, its latest PlayStation game was taken offline on September 6th after poor sales. The first-person shooter was released exclusively for PS5 and PC on August 23rd, but estimates suggest fewer than 25,000 copies were sold. Unity also only reached an all-time high of 697 players on Steam, lower than the launch high of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum — is generally considered the worst game of 2023.

“We have decided to take the game offline starting September 6, 2024 and explore options, including those that better reach our players,” says Concord game Director Ryan Ellis in a PlayStation blog post. “As we determine the best path forward, Unity Sales will cease immediately and we will begin offering full refunds to all players who purchased the game on PS5 or PC.”

If you purchased the game for PS5 from PlayStation Store, a refund will be processed via your original payment method. If you purchased Unity On Steam, you will receive a refund in the next few days and the same will happen on the Epic Games Store.

Unity was launched as a $40 game after eight years of development and competed with many free-to-play alternatives such as Watch and even Brave in the competitive hero shooter genre. As a paid game, it ultimately failed to establish itself, especially without a unique selling point.

Firewalk Studios' mention of options “that will better reach our players” and the refunds make it seem as if Unityif it returns, will switch to a free-to-play model. “We will keep you updated and thank all freegunners who have joined us in the Unity galaxy,” says Ellis.
