Protest in Govindpuri after sexual abuse of a minor boy by a neighbour

A six-year-old boy was allegedly sexually abused by his 35-year-old neighbour in the Govindpuri district of southeast Delhi.

According to police on Wednesday, the matter came to light on Tuesday when the boy told some people that he was inappropriately touched by his neighbour on Sunday. However, he and his family had not made any such allegations before then. The accused was identified as Balram Dass alias Kalu.

The boy's family had approached the local police stating that the six-year-old went missing on September 1 and a case was registered under Section 137(2) BNS for missing/abduction of a boy on the statement of his mother Radha,” said a senior police official while giving details of the case. He added that the boy was, however, traced by his family after a few hours and brought to the police station.

“On Sunday around 12:30 pm, the boy was tracked down by her family and taken to the police station. The boy was medically examined at AIIMS hospital at 4:51 pm on the same day. The related interrogation and statements were also recorded. After the medical examination, the boy was taken to Lajpat Nagar Boys' Care Home, Delhi by the investigating officer. During this time, the family accompanied the boy. The family had not alleged any sexual assault till Monday,” another officer explained. On Tuesday, the boy's statement was recorded before a magistrate and he said nothing incriminating. However, when he was brought before the Child Protection Committee, he alleged that the accused had touched him inappropriately.

A case was registered under Section 8 of the POCSO Act and the accused Balram Dass alias Kalu was arrested on Tuesday night. “When the accused was produced, the public gathered in large numbers as the area is densely populated with slums and multi-storeyed residential buildings and the crowd, including women, tried to attack the accused and the staff. However, the local police managed to bring the accused safely to the police station despite the huge crowd and their attempts to attack police personnel and the accused,” he said.
