Calcutta: The parents of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital doctor, who was the victim of the gruesome rape and murder last month, have now directly accused the Kolkata Police of deliberately showing “negligence and malice” in the preliminary investigation of the case before it was handed over to the CBI by the Kolkata High Court.

The parents not only accused the city police of deliberately delaying the registration of their complaint as an FIR, but also accused a city police officer of trying to persuade them to settle the matter for money.

Speaking to the media late on Wednesday night, while joining the protesting junior doctors on the same hospital premises, the victim's parents raised questions about the time gap between the filing of their complaint and the registration of the same as an FIR by the police officers of the local Tala police station.

“We filed our complaint on August 9 between 6.30 pm and 7 pm and at 11.45 pm it was registered as an FIR. Why? When our daughter's body was brought home, a senior officer of Kolkata Police asked us to settle the matter for money, which we immediately refused,” said the victim's father.

He also alleged that attempts were made to make him sign a blank paper, which he immediately denied. At the same time, the victim's parents also questioned the unbearable haste of the city police in carrying out the cremation of their daughter at the Panihati crematorium.

“We wanted our daughter's body to be kept for some time. But we were not allowed to do so and were practically forced to cremate the body in a hurry. Even the crematorium management did not accept any cremation fee from us,” said the victim's father.

He also accused a Calcutta Police officer of deliberately trying to mislead people by making false statements in the media even after the CBI took over the investigation into the matter.
