Gardaí renews appeal for witnesses to arrest Carlow business robbery

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses to an incident in which a shop in Carlow was raided by an armed man.

It happened on Sunday, just before 11am, at Boyle Sports in the Tullow Road shopping centre.

No one was injured in the incident, but people were understandably shocked.

A spokesperson for the company told KCLR News that the safety of its customers and employees is its top priority and that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure their wellbeing and that it is cooperating with the Gardaí in the investigation.

Complete statement;

“Thank you for contacting us. We can confirm that a robbery has taken place at our store in Carlow. We are cooperating fully with the Gardaí in their investigations. The safety of our customers and staff is our top priority and we are taking all necessary measures to ensure their welfare. As investigations are ongoing, we are unable to provide any further details. Thank you for your understanding.”

Garda Niamh Doran told KCLR News that the hunt for the man responsible was still ongoing: “Staff were shown an offensive weapon, which is not nice, and demands for money were made, staff complied and the suspect fled the scene.”

She adds: “This happened between about 10 and 11am, so there might have been people out and about and so on. You might have seen someone running, dressed unusually, who caught your eye. Give us direction to search the CCTV or anything else. If you can call Carlow on 059 9136620.”
