  • 5 September (Thursday): First day of school
  • 12 September (Thursday): Parents’ evenings for primary schools and kindergartens
  • 19 September (Thursday): Parents’ evenings for middle schools and D75 schools
  • 26 September (Thursday): Evening parent-teacher meetings for high schools, elementary schools and schools in grades 6–12

October

  • 3–4 October (Thursday–Friday): Rosh Hashanah, schools closed
  • October 14 (Monday): Italian Heritage/Indigenous Peoples Day, schools closed

November

  • November 1st (Friday): Diwali, schools closed
  • November 5 (Tuesday): Students do not attend school on election day
  • 7 November (Thursday): Afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings at primary schools; pupils at these schools are released from class three hours earlier.
  • 11 November (Monday): Veterans Day, schools closed
  • 14 November (Thursday): Afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings for middle schools and D75 schools; students at these schools will be released from class three hours earlier
  • 21 November (Thursday): Afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings for secondary schools, primary schools and schools in grades 6–12
  • 22 November (Friday): Afternoon parent-teacher meetings for secondary schools, primary schools and primary and secondary schools; pupils from these schools will be released three hours earlier.

  • 24 December–1 January (Tuesday–Wednesday): Winter break, schools closed

  • January 20 (Monday): On Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, schools were closed.
  • 21–24 January (Tuesday–Friday): Regent administration
  • January 27 (Monday): Professional development day
  • January 28 (Tuesday): First day of the spring semester
  • 29 January (Wednesday): Chinese New Year, schools closed

  • 17–21 February (Monday–Friday): Winter break, schools closed.

  • March 6 (Thursday): Afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings for primary schools and pre-school institutions; pupils in these schools will be released from classes three hours earlier.
  • March 13 (Thursday): Afternoon and evening parent-teacher meetings for middle schools and D75 schools, students from these schools will be released from class three hours earlier
  • March 20 (Thursday): Evening parent-teacher meetings for high schools, elementary schools and schools in grades 6–12

  • June 10 (Tuesday): The first administration of the new Regents Examinations in Life Sciences: Biology and Earth and Space Sciences
  • June 11 (Wednesday): The first administration of the new Regents Examination in Geometry
  • 17-26 June (Tuesday-Thursday): Regent administration
  • June 19 (Thursday): Juneteenth, schools closed
  • 26 June (Thursday): Last day of school for students

Yes. All students attending school in person are eligible for free breakfast and lunch daily. Your school will have information on where and when meals will be served.

The DOE offers students a variety of transportation options, such as MetroCards and buses, to get to school.

“The transportation services available to students vary based on the eligibility and needs of each child,” the DOE explains. “Talk to your school if you have questions about available options.”
