Mr Kohli died in hospital as a result of the attack, which occurred near the Bramble Way entrance to the park at around 6.30pm BST on Sunday.

An autopsy revealed that he had died of a neck injury.

His family described him in a statement as a “loving husband, father and grandfather.”

The 14-year-old boy was charged with Mr Kohli's murder on Wednesday.

Andrew Baxter, deputy chief prosecutor, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has reviewed a file of evidence from Leicestershire Police and has admitted a charge of murder against a 14-year-old boy in connection with the death of Bhim Sen Kohli.”

“The public prosecutor reminds everyone involved that criminal proceedings are currently underway against the accused and that the juvenile has a right to a fair trial.

“It is of utmost importance that there are no reports, comments or exchanges of information on the Internet that could in any way compromise this process.”
