O'Reilly student who allegedly stabbed a colleague charged with murder, remanded in custody for two weeks

• The 18-year-old student who allegedly stabbed his colleague at O'Reilly Senior High School has been charged with murder
• The court has also remanded the student identified as Godwin, and he will appear again for further hearing on September 19, 2024.
• The suspect is said to have fatally stabbed his colleague Edward Boketey Sackey, a general arts student, after an argument.

The 18-year-old O'Reilly Senior High School student at the center of the stabbing was recently arrested and charged with murder.

The suspect, identified only as Godwin, a Fine Arts student, is alleged to have stabbed fellow student Edward Boketey Sackey, a General Arts student, to death on Monday, September 2, 2024.

According to eyewitnesses, the two students were in their final year of study arguing about whose father was richer when the argument turned violent.

Godwin is said to have stabbed Edward several times in the chest with a sharp object.

Godwin was arraigned on Thursday, September 5, 2024, and is scheduled to return to court for further arraignment on September 19, 2024.

He was denied bail and remains in custody pending his next hearing.

Edward's father demands justice

Edward Boketey Sackey was pronounced dead on arrival at LEKMA Hospital after his schoolmates rushed him there following the stabbing.

Shortly thereafter, a heavy police presence was present on the school premises to prevent violent retaliation as family and friends of the deceased rushed to the school upon hearing the news.

In an interview with the media, the victim's father demanded justice for his son and demanded an explanation from the school administration.

He also expressed his frustration with police blocking access to the school.

Graphic Online reported that Stephen Abamfo, regional director of the Ghana Education Service for Greater Accra, assured an investigation into the incident and also ensured the safety of students at the school.

AAMUSTED student stabbed to death

YEN.com.gh Also reported was the death of a final year student of the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) who was stabbed to death after being accused of theft in Bantama, Ashanti Region.

Eyewitnesses report that on Sunday, September 1, 2024, an elderly lady accused the young man of stealing her bag and reported him to her 30-year-old boyfriend, which led to an argument between the two men after the student denied stealing the bag.

However, on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the two men clashed again, leading to his fatal knife attack in Gye Nyame, a community in Bantama.

After the stabbing, he was taken to Suntreso Government Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
