Leaked PlayStation 5 Pro design seemingly confirmed by official Sony 30th anniversary artwork

A recently leaked image purporting to show Sony's hotly debated but still officially secret PlayStation 5 Pro appears to have been confirmed by an unexpected source. A nearly identical design has now been spotted in the background of Sony's newly revealed official PlayStation 30th anniversary artwork.

Last week, prolific leaker bilbil-kun shared details about Sony's yet-to-be-announced PS5 Pro, as well as an image of the outer shell. While the PS5's familiar open-shirt design was mostly retained, there was one notable change: instead of the single diagonal stripe on the PlayStation Slim's body, the leaked PS5 Pro design featured three diagonal, ridged lines.

Keep that in mind as we now move forward to the present and Sony's recently announced PlayStation 30th anniversary celebrations. Alongside details of the birthday activities – which are set to include the release of several digital soundtracks as well as a new toy line – Sony shared new anniversary artwork featuring a grey cross, triangle, circle and square made up of various PlayStation consoles and peripherals.

And there, right between the PlayStation logo and a big old number three, is something that looks nothing like any currently released PlayStation device, but still looks awfully familiar: a large rectangular machine with three clearly visible diagonal grooves on the side. So yes, this could be our first official confirmation of the PS5 Pro's existence, albeit indirectly.

And if last week's design is accurate, it's reasonable to assume that other details shared by bilbil-kun (that the PS5 Pro will be a digital-only model, possibly with support for the PS5 disc drive add-on) are also accurate. It was also claimed that Sony would officially announce the console this month, so now that official artwork seems to be circulating, we could be close to a full reveal.

Eurogamer and Digital Foundry have been tracking the PS5 Pro's path to release since leaks first surfaced last summer. Since then, PS5 Pro specs have surfaced online, which Eurogamer says are accurate, and an analysis from Digital Foundry called the PS5 Pro “the most powerful console yet.” In April, it was revealed that Sony was preparing a label called “PS5 Pro Enhanced” for new and older patched games that will take advantage of the upcoming hardware, and in May, more technical details leaked. Hopefully, everything will be revealed soon.
