Lady Helen, the wife of Sir Terry Wogan, will be remembered even after her death as the “epitome of grace”

Mark Wogan said he hoped his mother and father, who died of cancer in January 2016 at the age of 77, “share a vodka martini and that we don't make too much of a fuss”.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Mr Wogan shared a video with pictures of his mother and father from years past and wrote: “Lady Helen Wogan 1936-2024.”

“Our wonderful mom left us last night after an amazing life,” he wrote.

“From a young Irish rose to Lady Wogan, she was the epitome of style and grace.

“A mother, grandmother and wife who had love and kindness at her core. A strength and faith that carried her through many of life's trials.

“A sense of humor and a way of expressing yourself that will make you burst with laughter.

“A real lady in the truest sense of the word.”

Famous faces who paid tribute included TV stars Fearne Cotton, Jamie Redknapp, Julia Bradbury, Laura Whitmore, Ronan Keating and Tess Daly.

Jeremy Clarkson wrote: “It's terrible when something like this happens. I'm thinking of you.”

Eamonn Holmes said: “What a woman and what a couple.”

Sir Terry and Lady Helen were married for decades and lived together in the village of Taplow in Buckinghamshire for more than 40 years.

The Limerick-born radio presenter was known for his talk shows “Children In Need” and his often caustic commentary on the Eurovision Song Contest.

In addition to his long-running breakfast show on Radio 2, he also hosted the long-running panel show Blankety Blank.
