Rams place Darious Williams on injured list

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – The Rams placed cornerback Darious Williams on the injured list on Thursday.

As a result, Williams will miss at least the first four games of the 2024 season.

Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula said Thursday he would refer questions about Williams to head coach Sean McVay, who is scheduled to speak to reporters Friday.

Williams was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's injury report. He began practicing again last week after missing most of training camp and the preseason with a hamstring strain he suffered at the end of the second training camp.

With Williams out, Cobie Durant limited on Wednesday with a hamstring injury and Tre Tomlinson on the injured list, Los Angeles could potentially look to Josh Wallace or Charles Woods as the next man up, both of whom have performed strongly enough to be in contention for the fourth cornerback spot in the rotation at that position.

“That's the reality of the NFL and you're prepared for any situation,” Shula said. “We're happy with our depth at almost all of our positions and feel well positioned.”

Shula praised Wallace and Woods for the consistency they have shown since arriving in Los Angeles in the spring.

“I think Sean referred to them as 'grown men,' very mature rookies,” Shula said. “Ask good questions in the meeting room. Guys that can take it from the meeting room to the field, it doesn't feel like too big a deal for them, they have great game day demeanor in the preseason. Obviously it's a big difference on Sunday night, but definitely guys that we felt from the beginning were really consistent, whether it was OTAs or all through training camp, whether it was meeting rooms or practice. Guys that you definitely trust or want on your team.”

When asked if they had considered adding another cornerback to the roster, Shula said, “We're not there yet.”

“We’ll see what (general manager) Les (Snead) and Sean want to do,” Shula said.
