Rapid City man faces death penalty for murder near Cornerstone Rescue Mission

RAPID CITY, SD (KOTA) – Michael Flores Jr. appeared in court for his arraignment on September 5, where he entered a not guilty plea to first-degree murder in 7th District Court this morning.

The 32-year-old is accused of murdering someone near the Cornerstone Rescue Mission on June 20.

Flores faces the death penalty, life imprisonment and a possible fine of $50,000.

He is scheduled to appear again for a status hearing on October 31. Flores remains in custody.

The state must decide whether to seek the death penalty before the next hearing.
