What is the story

Australian cricket team bowler Nathan Ellis has been ruled out for the remainder of the T20I series against Scotland as well as the upcoming eight white-ball matches against England.

Ellis sustained a thigh injury while playing for London Spirit in The Hundred, which led to this setback.

Cricket Australia confirmed on Friday that Ellis' injury had not healed sufficiently to consider him for selection.

Ellis missed chance to lead Australia's attack

The Scotland series was seen as a golden opportunity for Ellis to lead Australia's attack.

This was due to the absence of star pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, who are taking a break, while Josh Hazlewood is recovering from a slight calf strain.

However, Ellis' injury has dashed those hopes. He will soon return home as his recovery continues.

Meredith steps in for the injured Ellis

Riley Meredith, who recently made his international comeback in Australia's first T20I against Scotland, will remain in the Australian squad as Ellis' replacement.

This development means Somerset are likely to miss Meredith's participation on T20 Blast Finals Day this Saturday.

Meanwhile, pacer Hazlewood has arrived in England after recovering from his calf strain ahead of the first T20I at the Utilita Bowl on Wednesday.

Ellis' statistics for Australia

Ellis has played in 8 ODIs for Australia, taking 10 wickets at a rate of 38.20. He has also played 17 T20Is, taking a total of 28 wickets at a rate of 17.21. He has taken four wickets once.
