Woman wanted on arrest warrant dragged Mississauga police officers while fleeing the station

Authorities pursued and arrested a woman who fled the Gulfport police station early Thursday morning, dragging an officer in her car, Gulfport police said in a news release.

Daronda Monique Jackson, 39, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer.

Authorities said the incident began after Jackson went to the police station at 2:53 a.m. Thursday morning “to discuss a hit-and-run incident.”

An officer told Gulfport police that authorities in Jackson had issued several warrants for her arrest and she was arrested.

According to police, Jackson told the officer she needed to tell a juvenile who was still in her car. The officer decided to tell the juvenile instead. But Jackson left the police station and got into the driver's seat of her car, despite the officer asking her to exit the vehicle, police said.

Jackson told the officer she would not start the car, but then put it in reverse, police said. She dragged the officer, rammed a sign and fled, the press release said.

Police said the officer fled and Jackson was arrested by Biloxi police after a brief chase.

She is being held in the Harrison County Jail on $250,000 bail.
