Jadeveon Clowney makes a statement about the Panthers' edge rushers ahead of Week 1

The edge position has been a major problem for the Carolina Panthers all season, and with DJ Wonnum set to miss the first four games due to a hamstring injury, they are extremely thin on proven players.

Experienced Jadeveon Clowney will start on one side, but the other job is still up for grabs before the Week 1 game against the New Orleans Saints.

“We have a whole group, so we have to get this through to game day,” head coach Dave Canales said earlier this week. “We have a group of guys that we count on. They've had a lot of opportunities to show us what they can do.”

Clowney knows the others in that room are far from finished, but believes in their ability to get to the passer after witnessing it at camp last month.

“We have a lot of guys that can do it. DJ (Johnson) can do it. Eku (Leota) can do it. There are a lot of good guys that can do it, we just have to show it. I think he (DJ Johnson) had a great preseason, he got better during training camp. I saw him compete against the Jets and everything else. I'm just excited to see him out there and how he tests a lot of people this year and proves a lot of people wrong. I think he can do it.”
