Search warrants executed against members of the Adams administration

Sources told NY1 that search warrants were executed against Police Commissioner Edward Caban and Tim Pearson, a senior adviser to Mayor Eric Adams.

The news comes after sources told NY1 earlier Thursday that the FBI conducted raids on the homes of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Philip Banks, the city's deputy mayor for public safety.

Sources reported that federal investigators from NY1 visited Caban's home and seized his phones as well as the electronic devices of several other NYPD executives.

In a statement to NY1 after the news about Banks and Wright broke, City Hall's chief attorney, Lisa Zornberg, said: “Investigators have not indicated to us that the mayor or his staff are the target of any investigation. As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has repeatedly made it clear that all members of the team must abide by the law.”

In a separate statement, NYPD Deputy Information Officer Tarik Sheppard said the department was “aware of an investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York involving members of the armed forces.”

“The department is fully cooperating with this investigation,” Sheppard said.

According to sources, the home of Banks, a key decision-maker in police affairs, was raided by the FBI on Wednesday morning. That same morning, investigators searched Wright's Manhattan home, which she shares with her partner, school chancellor David Banks, who is Phil Banks' brother.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Adams said: “We will follow the rules and answer any questions that are asked of us.”

Sources said these investigations into Adams administration officials are separate from the probe into the mayor's 2021 campaign, which involves donations from individuals with ties to Turkey. That investigation led to the FBI raiding the homes of the mayor's top fundraiser and others last November and seizing the mayor's electronic devices.
