Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has reportedly denied any involvement in the incident in a lie detector test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

India today reported that he was asked ten questions during his lie detector test on August 25 at the Presidency Central Jail in Kolkata.

Three lie detector experts and the investigating officer from the investigative authority were present at this test.

Roy's lie detector test and first confession

During the test, he claimed that the victim was already dead when he saw her.

“I did not commit the murder. I fled the seminar hall after seeing the body,” Roy told the CBI during the test, sources said. India today.

However, many of his answers were reportedly marked as incorrect and unconvincing.

The CBI arrested Roy on August 10 based on CCTV footage and finding his Bluetooth headset in the seminar hall where the incident occurred.

Roy maintains his innocence, investigations are nearing completion

The CBI has identified Roy as the only suspect in the case and ruled out the possibility of gang rape.

The agency is now preparing to file charges against him as its investigation reaches its “final phase.”

So far, over 100 statements have been taken and 10 lie detector tests have been conducted in this case.

A medical report containing Roy's DNA was sent to AIIMS Delhi for further investigation.

Forensic evidence and Roy’s conduct in custody

Forensic tests reportedly yielded unfavorable results for Roy as his DNA matched samples taken from the victim's body.

This evidence rules out the involvement of any other person in the crime, CBI insiders said News18.

Roy is currently in a high-security section of the Presidency Jail, where he is largely isolated. He appears nervous and is showing signs of fear, according to prison officials.
