Horror in Calcutta: “I did not commit murder”, main accused Roy denies allegations in lie detector test

The prime suspect in the Kolkata rape and murder case, Sanjay Roy, has denied any involvement in the gruesome incident in a lie detector test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). News channel India Today, citing sources, reported that Roy fled the crime scene as soon as he discovered the body at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

According to the report, the CBI asked Roy 10 questions during the polygraph test. A CBI investigating officer and three polygraph test experts were present at the examination, which reportedly took place on August 25 at the Presidency Central Jail in Kolkata.

Roy initially confessed to the crime after his arrest on August 10, but the volunteer later reversed himself and claimed that he had been framed.

What did Roy say during the test?

Sanjay Roy is said to have told the CBI that he was not involved in the accident.

“I did not commit the murder. I ran out of the seminar hall after seeing the body,” he told the CBI during the test.

It should be noted that the results of a lie detector test are not admissible as evidence in court.

Sanjay Roy's lawyer Kavita Sarkar said that during the test he was asked what he did after the junior doctor's murder. Roy then told the CBI that the question was invalid as he did not commit the murder.

“The CBI has not been able to produce any conclusive evidence so far. Let them investigate and prove the crime,” the lawyer was quoted as saying by India Today.

The test also reportedly produced several incorrect and unconvincing answers.

CBI investigation in final phase

The CBI had previously stated that it had conducted nearly ten lie detector tests and recorded over 100 statements in connection with the case. According to media reports, the agency has evidence that incriminates only Sanjay Roy.

The authorities had already ruled out the possibility of gang rape in the murder case and identified Roy as the only suspect.
