Plaintiff suspects conspiracy and says there are attempts to sabotage investigations

Kochi: The complainant in actor Nivin Pauly's alleged rape case told police that she suspected a conspiracy was afoot to sabotage the investigation. Police recorded the statements of the complainant and her husband on Saturday.

Speaking to the media, the plaintiff said that attempts were being made to portray the rape allegations as the work of a “honeytrap gang.” “The investigation team asked me for personal information today, including my source of income. I handed over my passport to the investigation team,” she said.

The interrogation took place at the Aluva Crime Branch following a complaint by Nivin Pauly. The actor filed a complaint with the Chief Minister, Attorney General and the Special Investigation Team, claiming that the rape allegations were false and the conspiracy needed to be investigated.

The Oonnukal police have registered a case against six people, including Nivin, on a complaint filed by a local woman from Neriyamangalam. She said she was taken to Dubai on the pretext of acting and raped there. Nivin is the sixth accused. The other accused are Shreya from Kottayam, film producer AK Sunil from Thrissur and Binu, Basheer and Kuttan from Ernakulam.

According to the plaintiff, she was promised a job as a “caregiver” in Europe last November. When this did not materialize, the first defendant, Shreya, took her to Dubai and said she had several connections in the film industry and would get her a job as an actress. There, she was taken to a hotel room and sexually abused by the other defendants. The charges are sexual harassment and outrage of modesty of a woman.

Nivin strongly denied the allegation and filed a counter-complaint. Nivin's friends in the film industry also supported the actor, stating that he was in Kerala on the day the incident occurred, according to the complainant.
