Drivers in Milton Keynes face prison after ‘reckless’ car race

Officers from Thames Valley Police's Traffic Policing Unit have identified a number of people involved in an unauthorised car meet in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, which got out of control in late August.

On Saturday 17 August, a car park in the city suffered thousands of pounds of damage as several vehicles were driving in an “extremely dangerous manner” – “reckless behaviour” that endangered both drivers and onlookers.

After police arrived on the scene, the riders fled along with around 100 other spectators before the group reconvened at Magna Park later that evening – “behaving in a similar manner and causing disruption to the operations of local businesses”.

In the weeks since the car meet, officers have tracked down and seized all associated vehicles in various parts of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, London and Essex.

In addition, the drivers involved have been identified and are now facing criminal charges for dangerous driving, criminal damage and causing a public nuisance.

A police spokesman said: “(The drivers) will soon be brought before the courts where they face a criminal record, disqualification from driving, heavy fines and/or imprisonment.”

“We will also apply for a seizure order on the seized vehicles to ensure they are permanently removed from our roads and scrapped.

“If you are considering coming to the Thames Valley for unauthorised car gatherings, think again. We will use all available resources to track down the most dangerous drivers and get them off the road.”
