Building collapse in Lucknow: Prime Minister Modi announces Rs 200,000 for the relatives of the deceased

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced a gratia donation of Rs 200,000 to the families of the victims and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the tragic building collapse in Lucknow.

The Prime Minister expressed his condolences, described the incident as “sad” and prayed for the recovery of the injured.

“The loss of lives due to a building accident in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh is saddened. Prayers are with those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The next of kin of each deceased will receive a gratuity of Rs 200,000 from the PMNRF. The injured will receive Rs 50,000,” the Prime Minister's Office said in a post on X.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a three-storey building in Transport Nagar, Lucknow, which housed warehouses and an automobile repair shop, collapsed.

The death toll has now risen to eight after three more bodies were recovered from the rubble on Sunday.

According to police reports, the building was constructed about four years ago and ongoing construction work may have contributed to the collapse.

Most of the victims were working on the ground floor at the time of the incident, which occurred around 4:45 p.m.

According to official information, the building contained a car repair shop and warehouse on the ground floor, a medical warehouse on the first floor and a cutlery warehouse on the second floor.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district authorities to speed up relief efforts and ensure that the injured receive immediate medical attention.

“Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the building collapse in Transport Nagar, Lucknow,” the Chief Minister’s Office wrote on X.

“The Chief Minister has directed the district administration officials as well as the SDRF and NDRF teams to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. He has ensured that the injured are immediately shifted to the hospital for proper treatment. He also wished the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement added.
