Woman stabbed in the neck in her Dublin home was ‘lucky’ to survive – The Irish Times

A woman who was attacked and stabbed in the neck at her north Dublin home over the weekend was still in hospital emergency care on Sunday evening. Garda sources said the victim's injuries were very serious and she was lucky to survive the attack.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, Garda members and paramedics began an emergency response following reports of an attack at a private residence in Clonshaugh (Dublin 17), where the victim lived.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was found seriously injured at the scene and was treated by paramedics before being taken to nearby Beaumont Hospital for further treatment. The property was cordoned off by police as a crime scene and several local residents, including those who raised the alarm, were interviewed as witnesses.

Gardaí arrested a suspect, a man in his 40s, following the attack at around 12.25am on Saturday and are working on a specific line of inquiry. They believe the woman was attacked by a man who had called her home.

It is believed that the attacker and victim knew each other and had mutual friends and acquaintances. The Gardaí suspect that the attacker was motivated by a personal grievance.

The arrested man was arrested during a further search and detained at a north Dublin Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. This allows him to be questioned for up to 24 hours without charge, although interviews can be interrupted for rest periods and other reasons.

The property where the attack took place remained cordoned off over the weekend and was examined by Garda Technical Bureau personnel. Gardaí hope the victim makes a full recovery.
