Parsis “minority within the minority” contributed to India without demanding special rights: Amit Shah

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India]September 8 (ANI): Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah on Sunday lauded the Parsi community, saying they have contributed to the welfare of the country in every sector without demanding “minority rights”.

“There are many people who are fighting for the rights of minorities. I want to tell them that if there are any minorities, the Parsis are the minorities. They never protested for their rights, they only lived to fulfil their duties. They did not demand anything for themselves, they made a contribution to this country,” Shah said at a media event here.

Detailing the contributions of Parsis in India, he said, “Parsis are in every field, be it jurisprudence, industry, developing fintech, IT sector, nuclear sector or winning Bangladesh (war). You will find a Parsi there standing still.” “Without asking for anything, they (Parsis) have contributed to the country and they have kept giving. I pray to God that there are minorities like you,” he added.

He also said that when the Parsis came to Gujarat to seek asylum, the local Raja told them that his kingdom already had a large population and asked them how they could live there. To this, the Parsis replied that just as sugar dissolves in milk, they too would integrate into the society. (ANI)
