The Oscar-winning Australian, who has been considered the queen of the silver screen since the 1990s, admitted she was nervous when Dutch director Halina Reijn's hard-hitting film premiered in the Italian water town last week.

Kidman (57) played Romy, a married, influential New York CEO who begins a passionate, sadomasochistic affair with a new intern at the company.

Kidman had delved into the genre in 1999 with her then-husband Tom Cruise in Stanley Kubrick's final film, “Eyes Wide Shut,” a similarly profound look at sexuality and the human psyche.

Unfortunately, she was unable to accept her award in Venice because upon arriving in the Italian city she learned that her “beautiful, brave mother” Janelle had died.

“I am in shock and I need to be with my family. But this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me,” Kidman said in a statement read by Reijn.

Kidman also won an Oscar in 2003 for her transformation into the writer Virginia Woolf in “The Hours.”
