Arrest after fatal accident in Mobile this morning

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) – Mobile police said they have made an arrest following a traffic crash Sunday morning in which a woman was found dead at the scene.

According to police, Spencer Strickland was arrested.

Metro Jail records show that Strickland is charged with manslaughter.

On Sunday, September 8, 2024, at approximately 12:37 a.m., officers responded to a traffic accident at Airport Boulevard and McGregor Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found a dead female motorist at the scene. The victim was identified as Katherine Smith, 38. Upon further investigation, officers determined that Smith was crossing Airport Boulevard at McGregor Avenue when the driver of a pickup truck ran a red light and collided with Smith's SUV.

Spencer Strickland, 37, was arrested and taken to Metro Jail.
