Puka Nacua is out for the rest of the Rams' season opener after injury

Los Angeles Rams star wide receiver Puka Nacua is out for the rest of the game after suffering an injury in the second quarter. Los Angeles thought he might try out, but he was ruled out after a closer examination at halftime.

Los Angeles will now have to face the Detroit Lions without the services of its star wide receiver, but the Rams can still work with Cooper Kupp and a few other pass receivers.

But losing a presence like Nacua hurts the Rams on offense. They will miss his ability to attract double coverage, and he has been a key weapon for Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford since entering the NFL.

Los Angeles trailed Detroit 10-3 at halftime.

Nacua had a record-setting rookie season and helped the Rams make a surprise playoff appearance. Hopefully Nacua's injury was a precautionary measure and nothing too serious.

The second-year wideout has been dealing with a lingering knee injury throughout the preseason, so the team likely wants to be cautious with him. The last thing Los Angeles wants is for knee issues to linger throughout the season.

But without Nacua, the defense will have to do more in the future. The team has already lost All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald to retirement and traded star linebacker Ernest Jones IV before the start of the season.

Los Angeles will have to rely on some inexperienced players to improve the defense this season, but if Nacua is out for some time, the defense will become even more important.

While the Rams have some young talent to rely on, things could get tough for this team going forward. Los Angeles will have to hope for the best with this injury and if something happens, they can pivot.

Entering the season, the Rams believed they had enough to win the Super Bowl again, but injuries have severely impacted their overall strength and it could be difficult to continue.

Hopefully, Nacua will be able to return to the team for next week's game against the Arizona Cardinals. Los Angeles will then host the San Francisco 49ers before welcoming the Chicago Bears to town.
