87-year-old British pensioner arrested for attempted murder in Greece after 'attempting to suffocate his bedridden 89-year-old wife with a pillow'

A British pensioner has been arrested after allegedly attempting to suffocate his wife with a pillow in Greece.

The 87-year-old is said to have attacked his sick and bedridden wife (89) in Paleo Faliro, just outside Athens.

According to local media reports, she was admitted to Janeio Hospital.

The Briton was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder after allegedly attacking his wife in their shared apartment, reports Protothema.

He then reportedly went to another apartment on another floor of the building to tell a friend what he had done.

The second man's girlfriend called the police, and when they arrived at the apartment, they found the woman lying naked on her bed.

The unnamed pensioner apparently told police that his wife had asked him to suffocate her because she was feeling ill and had been confined to bed for so long.
