Five Finger Death Punch bassist Chris Kael loves Metallica

In an interview with 107.7 The Bone, Five Finger Death Punch bassist Chris Kael talked about his experience of touring with Metallica. The musician has fond memories of the trip together, he explained.

Five Finger Death Punch: On the road with Metallica

“The coolest thing about this whole thing is that James Hetfield knows my name.” He knows my name! Metallica was a big influence on me growing up. Cliff Burton is still my favorite bass player. I sing because of James Hetfield”call them Kael. “I listened to all the hair metal stuff from the '80s, like Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, all that stuff.” […] And then I heard James. I thought, 'I can do that, too.' And he's the reason I play my bass so damn low.

They are still so actively involved in the fan experience, it's incredible. It gives me hope for the future and teaches me to stay humble, stay engaged and stay on top of things. […] I'm a hardcore punk rock DIY guy. They are too. They're into everything they do. […] And I love to see that. One day I was in catering with my technician and James Hetfield came over. He was on the phone with someone. And I saw him hang up. […] He said, 'Hey, Kael. Are you OK? Having fun? Do you need anything?' […] Then he called back. I looked at my equipment. I just thought, “Did James Hetfield just hang up to say hello?”

I'm also very aware of how wonderful this whole experience is, being able to work with people I admired as a kid, people who are the reason I make music. We opened for Kiss. I got Gene Simmons tattooed on my shin. Just being able to be on the same stages and play the same shows, it's crazy.”
