Anyone who is permanently employed and subject to compulsory insurance automatically pays into unemployment insurance. This means that most employees are covered in the worst case scenario and can receive unemployment benefits if they lose their job. The benefit is paid out every month. But when will the money actually be in the account in September 2024?

Unemployment benefit: How much is it and who gets it?

Unlike citizen's allowance, unemployment benefit is an insurance benefit and not a social benefit. Accordingly, it is not paid indefinitely, but only for a certain period of time. The Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS) states that the maximum period of entitlement is 24 months. In addition, not everyone who registers as unemployed and looking for work receives the same amount. According to the Federal Employment Agency, the amount of unemployment benefit depends on various factors. These include previous income, tax bracket, children who are entitled to child benefit. Anyone who previously earned 1,500 euros net, 2,000 euros net, 3,000 euros net or 4,000 euros net will receive more or less unemployment benefit accordingly. However, the maximum rates must also be observed.

Unemployment benefit in September 2024: When will the money be transferred?

People who receive unemployment benefits are usually dependent on the benefit. It is therefore important to know when the monthly payment will be paid into the account. According to the Federal Employment Agency, unemployment benefits are “paid out regularly each month in arrears”. This ensures that those entitled to them “can access the payment amount on the first working day of the following month”.

Accordingly, unemployment benefits for August will be paid out in September 2024. Since September 1 of this year falls on a Sunday, unemployment benefits should be eligible at the latest Monday, September 2, 2024are available in the account.

By the way: How long you receive unemployment benefit depends on your age, among other things. It makes a difference whether you are 55, 58, 59, 60 or 62 years old. However, from a certain point onwards, the insurance benefit can no longer be received across all age groups. If those affected are still unemployed after this, they can apply for citizen's allowance.
