The listeners

Release date: still known, BBC One

Early reviews of this five-part BBC drama from the Toronto International Film Festival are good, with particular praise for Rebecca Hall's excellent portrayal of teacher Claire, whose life is thrown into disarray when she is the only person who can hear a faint humming sound. Jordan Tannahill adapted the film from his novel of the same name. The listeners is the story of Claire's search for answers, which leads her to form a bond with the few people who can also hear the sound and distances her from her normal life.

Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light

Mark Rylance in Tudor costume as Cromwell in the BBC adaptation of Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light

Release date: tbc, BBC One

The BBC adapted the first two books of Hilary Mantel’s acclaimed Wolf Hall novel trilogy nearly 10 years ago, so this sequel has been a long time coming. Mark Rylance, Jonathan Pryce, Damien Lewis and more of the original cast return for the final chapter of Thomas Cromwell's story, which sees Cromwell fall from grace with the king while past rivalries try to bring him down. Filming on this atmospheric historical drama wrapped in early 2024, so it shouldn't be long before we get to see it.
