IAS aspirant among four arrested for robbery and shooting of businessman in Nangloi

Delhi Police have arrested four men, including an IAS aspirant, for allegedly shooting and robbing a businessman at gunpoint near a petrol station in Nangloi area.

Crime in Delhi: Four persons, including a civil services aspirant, have been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly robbing and shooting dead a businessman at a petrol pump in Nangloi. According to the officials, the incident took place on September 1 when the four accused, identified as Kuldeep, Aryan, Shivam Pandey and Tirath, robbed the victim Saurabh Gupta at gunpoint and shot him in the leg.

“Police received two PCR calls informing about a robbery and gunshot incident near the petrol pump on Rohtak Road near Nangloi in September. A team was immediately sent to the spot where they spotted the victim. Saurabh Gupta had sustained gunshot injuries on his hip bone. He was taken to Maharaja Aggarsen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh for treatment,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Jimmy Chiram.

Giving details, the DCP said Gupta, who runs a sugar trading business in Nangloi, was on his way home when he was ambushed by the four men. The assailants tried to snatch his bag, which contained a laptop and Rs 800,000 to Rs 100,000 in cash. However, when Gupta resisted the robbery attempt, one of the accused shot him and fled with his accomplices who were waiting nearby on a motorcycle.

Following the incident, an FIR was filed and further investigation was initiated. During the process, police analysed more than 1,100 CCTV footage and noticed that suspects went to Karan Vihar area in Suleman Nagar and arrested Kuldeep and Aryan, the official said.

“Both the accused were interrogated separately, Aryan confessed to the crime along with his accomplices Kuldeep, Shivam Pandey and Tirath,” the DCP said.

“Aryan told the team that he had passed on information about the target and everyone robbed him of his money bag and laptop. Further, further raids were conducted in Karan Vihar area in which Tirath and Shivam were also arrested,” the DCP added.

The accused were brought before the city court and remanded in custody for four days, he said.

During remand, the accused told police that after the robbery, they went to Mani Karan and Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. They robbed another businessman to pay off their debts and fulfill the wishes of their partners, DCP Chiram said, adding that further investigation was underway in the matter.

Police seized cash amounting to Rs 527,000, a modified pistol, a stolen motorcycle and a mobile phone.
