Owner of dog involved in biting incident receives fine

An application has also been made to the court for an order requiring greater control of the animal or its destruction.

THUNDER BAY – The owner of a dog involved in an incident that left a six-year-old girl hospitalized with cuts to her head has been ticketed for failing to register his dog.

The City of Thunder Bay's Municipal Enforcement Service has also requested a court order requiring either greater control of the animal or its destruction.

On August 6, Willow Royer was attacked by a dog after she approached a woman who was walking the dog through the neighborhood and asked if she could pet the animal.

According to the child's father, the dog clung to her head and narrowly missed her eye with its teeth.

The woman managed to free the animal and the video apparently shows her admonishing it as she left the scene.

A city spokesman said that following their investigation, Municipal Enforcement Services issued the owner a ticket under the Provincial Offences Act.

The ticket carries a fine of $195.

A hearing under the Dog Owners Liability Act has also been requested and is scheduled for later this month.
