Aitch visits small town in Midlothian for charity shopping cart run outside Scottish supermarket

RAPPER Aitch has taken a trip to the most unlikely place to take part in a hilarious trolley dash charity competition.

The rapper, whose real name is Harrison Armstrong, turned up at a Scotmid Co-op in Mayfield, Midlothian, yesterday to attempt the challenge made famous by classic British game show Supermarket Sweep.

The 24-year-old was in Edinburgh last Saturday for a meet-and-greet event at Scotmid, where he collaborated with the Scottish chain to promote its range of sugar-free soft drinks called SYPS.

At his next appearance in the small Scottish town of around 13,600 inhabitants, Aitch was challenged to fill his shopping cart with as much food as possible in 60 seconds.

He then gave the contents to a fan outside and the monetary value of the items was added up and donated to charity.

Snappy Shopper operates a delivery service for many small UK supermarkets and regularly organises the challenges in the stores it works with across the country.

In a detailed video, the challenge presenter introduces her famous guest with the words: “Hi guys, this is Caitlin from Snappy Shopper, I'm here at Scotmid Co-op Mayfield with the lovely Aitch.

“We give Aitch 60 seconds to run around the store and fill his cart with everything he wants.

“We'll cover everything and donate it to a fan outside, but Aitch will choose.

“Scotmid and Snappy Shopper will match the amount of the shopping cart and also donate to charity.”

After the rules of the challenge – no tobacco, no alcohol, no scratch cards – are briefly explained, Aitch is sent on his way.

He speeds into first gear and almost knocks over a woman who is filming.

He first throws a few bars of chocolate into his shopping cart, then runs to the back of the store and grabs a loaf of bread and several packets of chips on the way.

In the next aisle he grabs some cookies and cereal, throwing some packets on the floor.

He reaches a display of his own drinks, lifts two trays of cans onto the trolley, and watches the staff cheer him on.

He leans over the shopping cart to pull it behind him and calls out cheerfully, “Get out of my way.”

As he finds himself in the snack section, he suddenly shouts, “Oh shit,” while a man in the background gives him a 10-second warning.

With a slightly panicked expression, he empties a bowl of Galaxy bars into his shopping cart, followed by a random jar from a display as time runs out.

Applause can be heard from those around him, complimenting him on his quick sprint.

The clip was shared on social media yesterday with the caption “Introducing our newest Snappy Shopper Dasher, Aitch.”

Since then, it has received over 5,600 likes and more than 240 comments from Scots who found his antics amusing.

One wrote: “Rumor has it he's still waiting in line to get the total cost figured out.”

A second said: “The man still has a weakness for sweets.”

Another commented, referring to the show's original host from the 1990s: “What on earth is that?”

A fourth said: “He wasted those 60 seconds immensely. Chocolate, crisps, bread, biscuits, cake, cereal and mineral water?”

Another wrote: “The fact that he was in Mayfield of all places baffles me.”
