Tilden man charged with stealing Norfolk property, drugs and homemade bomb | News

A Tilden man is in custody after Madison County Sheriff's officials discovered property from a recent burglary in Norfolk: drugs and a homemade bomb in his car and his Tilden home.

Jerimiah Hupke, 47, was initially stopped in a white Toyota 4Runner east of Tilden. Authorities did not disclose the initial reason for the stop, but arrested Hupke after learning his license had been suspended. A search of Hupke's vehicle turned up several “drug-related items” in addition to the stolen items from Norfolk, according to the sheriff's office.

Officers then obtained a search warrant for Hupke's home in Tilden, where they discovered the homemade bomb along with several drugs and other paraphernalia, the sheriff's office said. The Nebraska State Patrol bomb squad was called in to dispose of the bomb.

Madison County Sheriff's officials also arrested 35-year-old Christopher Tiedke, who was believed to be at Hupke's residence. Tiedke was arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, while Hupke was arrested on suspicion of a similar offense, as well as possession of stolen property and driving without a license.

Both suspects are being held in the Madison County Jail while Madison County Sheriff Todd Volk investigates the case.
