Two pretend to be policemen and steal Rs 5 lakh from lawyer

Mumbai: Two fraudsters pose as police Officers bundled a lawyer in Khar and threatened to take him to the Mumbai CID for questioning. They took Rs 500,000 in cash from him and dropped him off their vehicle midway. Khar Police have filed an FIR for fraud and are continuing to investigate.
The lawyer told police that his brothers ran a travel agency and a money transfer service, and that he sometimes helped them, including by depositing money into the company's bank account for money transfers.
On the night of September 7, his brother gave him Rs 570,000 to deposit in the company's bank account. On September 8, at around 7 am, he deposited Rs 70,000 in one of the bank accounts. He then prepared to go to another bank at 7:30 am to deposit the remaining Rs 500,000.
Two men approached him outside the ATM in Khar and claimed to be detectives. They insisted that he accompany them to the CID. They refused to have any further discussions on the spot.
After taking the plaintiff in their car, the two men searched his bag and found the money. He explained that it was intended for money transfer services. However, they threatened to file a complaint against him.
A little later, they claimed that they had to make several arrests and had a lot of work to do. They asked him to get down from the vehicle at Santacruz and disappeared with his money.
The lawyer later realised that he had been cheated and filed a police complaint. Apart from cheating, Khar police have also filed charges of identity fraud against the accused duo. The police will check the CCTV footage of the spot where the lawyer was 'arrested' by the duo to get their vehicle registration number and trace them.
The lawyer described the two accused to the police as follows: They were about 5'6″ tall and in their 40s. One of them was wearing a blue shirt and jeans, while the other was wearing a white shirt and khaki pants.|
