In the past three months, there have been several incidents of child molestation in the Schönau district near the Schönau primary school and a daycare center. The city administration and the State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB) have also now become involved.

The Chemnitz police are currently investigating three cases. In June, a man is said to have exposed his genitals at a daycare center's fence. On July 15, a cyclist approached a student at Schönau Elementary School on her way home, exposed himself to her and manipulated his genitals. The girl fled.

The third incident occurred on August 28: A student was on his way home in Schönauer Park when he saw a man masturbating on a park bench. The child's parents filed a complaint.

It is currently unclear whether the same perpetrator is responsible in all cases. Local politicians also reacted to the incidents.

The FDP and CDU council group has submitted a council request calling for an increased presence of police and city law enforcement. “Many parents here in Schönau are worried,” said FDP city councilor Yvonne Kilian (45).

“Depending on the operational situation and human resources, special attention will be paid to patrolling the districts of Schönau and Siegmar,” explained Mayor of Public Order Knut Kunze (54, independent).

According to the police, there are currently no increased patrols in these areas, but the areas are checked regularly.

The LaSuB is also informed about the incidents. “The primary school is in close contact with its school representative,” a spokeswoman said when asked by TAG24.
