'I just freaked out': The consequences for TikToker who killed his estranged wife and the man he suspected

Notorious TikTok star Ali Abulaban, who was convicted of the brutal murders of his wife and a man he suspected of being involved with her, has been sentenced to life in prison. The verdict, handed down by Judge Jeffrey Fraser on Sept. 6, sentenced Abulaban to spend the rest of his life behind bars without the possibility of parole. In addition, he received an additional 50 years for gun enhancements, according to Emily Cox of San Diego County Superior Court.

Judge Fraser's words were unflinching as he addressed Abulaban: “You will die in prison. You will never be free again.” When the verdict was announced, the courtroom erupted into applause. The judge criticized Abulaban's lack of remorse and described his actions as shockingly selfish.

Abulaban's lack of remorse and self-pity during the sentencing drew sharp criticism from the judge

During the hearing, Abulaban expressed his belief that he deserved a chance at parole and lamented the life sentence as a form of eternal damnation. His request was met with disregard because he had previously shown no remorse for his heinous actions.

The tragic events came to light in October 2021 when Abulaban, already separated from his wife Ana Marie Abulaban, used a hidden listening device on their daughter's iPad to eavesdrop on their conversations. When Abulaban detected another man's voice in their San Diego apartment, he violently confronted and killed 29-year-old Rayburn Barron before turning the gun on Ana, killing her as well. Before the murders, Ana had sent Abulaban a clear message demanding that he be out of her life, according to NBC San Diego.

After the murders, Abulaban confessed to his mother and later during the trial, describing his actions as a sudden, uncontrollable outburst. His past behavior included documented abuse and drug use, and his tumultuous relationship with Ana was widely known and shared across his social media channels.

Ana's tragic death has deeply shocked her family and friends. Her sister expressed regret for not knowing the full extent of Ana's suffering and her community is devastated. Ana's body is to be returned to the Philippines for burial, while the family of her friend Rayburn Barron, who remembers him as a unifying and loyal figure, will honor the memory.
