12 arrests for numerous crimes during Operation Tornado

Operation Tornado was carried out last Wednesday, September 4, in the Ryedale and Scarborough area.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to give you an update on the arrests we made last week during Operation Tornado.

“From warrants executed with the support of our Operational Support Unit to arrests made by our Response and Neighbourhood Policing Teams, the day of action has helped our officers bring suspects to justice.

“We can also continue to investigate those who seek to harm our communities.

“During Operation Tornado on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, twelve arrests were made.”

A 46-year-old man has been charged with shoplifting and is scheduled to appear before a Justice of the Peace on September 23.

An 18-year-old man from Scarborough, who was wanted by North Yorkshire Police, was arrested in the Humberside area and is currently in custody.

A 28-year-old man, currently of no fixed address, has been charged and appeared in court on three counts of assaulting emergency workers and one count of causing a disturbance on NHS premises.

A 21-year-old man from Scarborough was charged and brought before the Magistrates' Court on 15 charges including theft from a motor vehicle, shoplifting, fraud and burglary.

A 37-year-old woman from Scarborough has also been charged and will appear before the Magistrates' Court on 23 September for two counts of shoplifting. A man from the York area will accompany her for three counts of shoplifting. Both the man and the woman have been released on bail and are barred from entering certain shops in Scarborough to prevent repeat offences.

Three people were arrested in Malton for drug offences. An 18-year-old man from Malton, a 19-year-old man from Malton and a 30-year-old woman from Malton were released on bail for possession of Class A and B drugs with intent to resell.

A 56-year-old man from Scarborough and a 43-year-old man from Bridlington have been released pending investigation after being arrested for possession of Class B drugs with intent to resell.

Senior Operations Manager, Superintendent Rachel Wood, said: “Last Wednesday's day of action enabled us to work together to impact those who cause harm in our communities. We are supporting our businesses not only through proactive patrols and arrests, but also by streamlining evidence gathering processes so we can bring offenders to justice. We are constantly working with our partner agencies to reduce the influences behind drug crime and provide support and advice to those in our communities who need help.”
