Colombian media rave about Luis Diaz after Liverpool winger scores against Peru

The Liverpool players have had a productive time during the international break so far.

The Reds have made an excellent start to the season, resulting in 16 first-team players being promoted to senior internationals.

Arne Slot is happy with what he has seen so far, as many players have already been in action. Alexis Mac Allister scored for Argentina, although his subsequent injury is obviously a concern.

Conor Bradley was also in fine form for Northern Ireland, while the Brazilian media were impressed by Alisson Becker's performance during their match on Saturday morning.

Luis Diaz was also in action on Saturday and the Liverpool winger was once again on the scoresheet.

Colombian press raves about Luis Diaz

Diaz has really started the season well for Liverpool. Despite rumours that Diaz will be sold in the summer, the Colombian has made a lively start.

Three goals in the first three games of the Premier League season have led to speculation that Diaz will be given a new contract at Liverpool.

Whether that will work out in the end remains to be seen. But there is no denying that number 7 is one of the most in-form players in the Liverpool squad.

This continued on Saturday when Diaz scored Colombia's equaliser against Peu in the 82nd minute.

It was a big goal for Los Cafeteros, keeping them unbeaten after seven matches in World Cup qualifying, and according to Colombian magazine El Heraldo, the point was largely thanks to Diaz.

They claim that Lucho “always tried to find the opponent's goal” and “took the lead” to get his team back into the game. His rating of seven out of ten was the highest ever received by a Colombian player.

El Tiempo gives Diaz the same rating that he shares with James Rodriguez.

They claim that the Liverpool man “didn't shine but was destined to be the hero” and eventually scored the equaliser that was “worth its weight in gold” for Colombia.

How was Luis Diaz’s goal?

Diaz's three goals for Liverpool in the 2024/25 season have all been different.

His first goal came on a counterattack with a left-footed shot that hammered into the net, his second with a header at the far post and his third with a beautiful, controlled curler with his right foot.

During his time at Liverpool, however, Diaz has developed a habit of scoring with his head. The former Porto man's strike against Man United on Sunday was his 27th goal for the club, with six of those being headers.

And once again Lucho showed that ability for Colombia on Saturday. Diaz sneaked in at the far post and headed in Jhon Duran's shot at the near post following a corner.

It was an instinctive finish from Diaz and another indication that Liverpool can expect better performances from him this season. Long may it continue.
