SCHOOL CLOSURES announced due to Hurricane Francine

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – Some school districts have announced that classes will be canceled for students on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as Hurricane Francine makes landfall in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area.

The following schools have made announcements:

Universities and colleges

• Louisiana State University closed, but classes will take place online on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12. Students who remain on campus during the storm are asked to shelter in place from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday through 1:00 p.m. Thursday. This means students are asked not to go outside during this time. If students are living on campus, meals will be delivered to residence halls during the time they are sheltering in place. Students can stay in touch with residence hall staff to stay updated.
• The Southern University The Baton Rouge campuses closed at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10 and remains closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12. Normal operations are expected to resume on Friday, Sept. 13. The closure will affect all classes, business operations and activities at Southern University and A&M College, Southern University Law Center and Southern University AgCenter. Students living in on-campus residence halls are encouraged to shelter at home or go home when it is safe to do so.
• All Northshore Technical Community College The campuses close at noon on Tuesday, September 10th. The campuses will remain closed until Thursday, September 12th. All courses will be cancelled during the campus closure.
• Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) will switch to remote working and virtual teaching from midday Tuesday, September 10. All locations are closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12and all classes, events and activities will be cancelled.
• Franciscan Missionaries of the University of Our Lady is closed from 5pm on Tuesday, September 10and remains closed on Wednesday, September 11FranU is currently planning to resume remote operations on Thursday, September 12.

Parish of Ascension

• Public schools and after-school care in Ascension are closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12Extracurricular activities are cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

Parish of the Assumption of Mary

• Assumption Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 10, Wednesday, September 11, And Thursday, September 12.

Parish of Iberville

• The public schools and offices of the municipality of Iberville are closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12. Schools and offices close on Tuesday, September 10. Click here to view the early release schedule.

Parish of St. Mary

• St. Mary Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 10And Wednesday, September 11.

Parish of St. Jakob

• St. James Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, And Thursday, September 12All extracurricular activities will be cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

East Baton Rouge Parish

• All East Baton Rouge Parish School System Schools remain closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.

• Zachary Community School District closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.
• Central Community School System closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.
• The Baker City School System Schools will close on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12. Extracurricular activities have been cancelled for Tuesday, September 10.
• St. Joseph's Academy closed on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th.
• Helix Mentorship Academy And Helix Law Academy closes at 1pm on Tuesday, September 10. Helix Aviation Academy closes at 14:30 on Tuesday, September 10. All Helix Community Schools remains closed until Thursday, September 12.
• Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12.
• Dalton Elementary School And Lanier Elementary School closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.
• Jones Creek Adventist Academy closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.
• GEO Prep Academy, GEO Mid-City, GEO Prep Baker, GEO Next Generation High SchoolAnd Administrative offices closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12All extracurricular activities will be cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.
• Central Private School closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.

• The Dunham School closed on Wednesday, September 11 and Thursday, September 12.
• Inspire Charter Academy closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12.
• Jehovah-Jireh Christian Academy and Learning Center closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12.
• Martin Luther King Jr. Christian Academy closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12.

East Feliciana Parish

• All Public Schools in East Feliciana are closed on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th. All extracurricular activities are cancelled for Tuesday, September 10th.

Livingston Parish

• All Livingston Community Public Schools closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12th. Classes will resume on Friday, September 13th. The afternoon activities end at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10th.

Municipality of Pointe Coupee

• All Pointe Coupee Community Public Schools and the District Office closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12All extracurricular activities will be cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

West Baton Rouge Parish

• West Baton Rouge Parish Schools closed on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th. Extracurricular activities are cancelled on Tuesday, September 10th.
• Holy Family School closed on Wednesday, September 11th and Thursday, September 12th. Extracurricular activities are cancelled on Tuesday, September 10th. The extracurricular activities were cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

Parish of St. Helena

• St. Helena College and University of Applied Sciences closed on Wednesday, September 11. On Thursday, September 12There will be a virtual learning day. Learners are expected to complete their assignments and attend Teams meetings from 1pm to 3pm to receive direct instruction.
