Sabrina Carpenter imitates Madonna in her vintage Bob Mackie dress on the 2024 VMAs red carpet

She definitely has taste.

Sabrina Carpenter walked the red carpet at the 2024 VMAs in stunning style, wearing a shimmering white sequin dress that had previously been seen on another famous chart-topper: Madonna.

The “Material Girl” singer, who was the first artist to perform at the awards ceremony 40 years ago, first unveiled the Bob Mackie design in 1991 and wore it during her performance at the Oscars that same year.

Madonna's unforgettable look was completed with a white fur cape as she attended the film awards ceremony with Michael Jackson as her escort.

It was later acquired by Tab Vintage, and in August the store showcased the piece – featuring a sweetheart neckline and silver embellishments – on Instagram, asking its followers: “Who do you think should wear this dress next?”

The 25-year-old “Espresso” singer skipped Madonna's fur stole, but just like Madge, she wore her famous blonde hair in shaky curls and kept her signature babydoll makeup – and wore the same red lipstick.

She also accessorized with some dazzling pieces from De Beers, including a 23.95-carat diamond necklace set in 18-karat white gold, a pair of 2.75-carat diamond earrings set in 18-karat white gold, and a 3.35-carat emerald-cut pave-set diamond ring set in platinum.

Carpenter attended the MTV Music Awards alone, but will perform some hits from her current album “Short 'n Sweet”.

The superstar is nominated in a whopping seven categories – for the first time ever – including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year. She will compete against her best friend Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and others in key categories.

While this is certainly not Carpenter's first appearance at the VMAs, it promises to be a monumental one for the 5'10″ star: She will take the stage at the UBS Arena on Long Island alongside her ex Shawn Mendes and Camila Mendes, with whom the former Disney star reportedly had a love triangle.

Fans believe that several of Carpenter's songs are about the “Treat You Better” singer and his relationship with Cabello. Mendes, 26, and the actress were first linked in February 2023 when they were spotted out and about in Los Angeles, although Mendes insisted they were “not together” during a Q&A with fans.

Less than a month later, Mendes was caught kissing Cabello at Coachella – something Carpenter seems to reference in her new song “Coincidence.”

However, not all of the songs on her seventh album are about Mendes. Her current flame Keoghan starred in her music video “Please Please Please,” in which she pleads, “I'm begging you, don't embarrass me,” referring to the “actor” and the “devil inside me.”

However, the “Saltburn” star also has a real love song to offer with “Bed Chem,” in which Carpenter praises the “cute guy with the white jacket and the thick accent” and reveals her first impression of the “day we met.”

Stay tuned to see which Flame Carpenter fans will be on stage.
