Emily in Paris: Brigitte Macron has a cameo appearance in the hit Netflix series | Ents & Arts News

France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron made a cameo appearance in the hit Netflix series “Emily in Paris.”

Season four sees Emily, played by Lily Collins – the daughter of the British pop star Phil Collins – off to Rome for new adventures.

Mrs Macron, 71, who gave acting lessons to the current French president Emmanuel Macron from their first meeting at his high school can be seen in the seventh episode, which was released on Thursday.

In the scene, Emily is seen approaching Mrs Macron in a restaurant and asking her for a selfie.

The First Lady pushes her security guard aside, happily complies, and says, “Emily, it’s you!” Then she tells her friends, “I follow her on Instagram.”

After Emily says how much she adores France, Mrs Macron replies: “And my country loves you, Emily.”

Emily then takes a photo of herself, her friend Genevieve and Mrs Macron and adds the hashtags #FirstLadiesWhoLunch and #makeiticonic – a slogan from President Macron's quest to attract foreign investors France.

The show, which centers on a woman from Chicago named Emily Cooper who moves to the French capital, was NetflixThe most watched show of 2020.

However, in addition to loyal fans, it has also won over many critics because it creates a stereotypical image of Paris.

Collins told Elle magazine, which first reported on the cameo, that the idea for Ms Macron's guest appearance came after she and the show's creator, Darren Star, met the First Lady at the Élysée Palace in December 2022.

Mrs Macron is mentioned in the first season of the series when she visits Emily’s Instagram Post expressing disappointment that the French word for vagina, “le vagin,” is masculine.

“Big fan of the show”

Collins told Elle: “She's a huge fan of the show and took the mention in season one with great humor. This scene in season four is tongue-in-cheek and filming with her was both an honor and a real pleasure.”

Regarding her performance, the actress said that Mrs Macron had “great talent”.

Netflix told AFP that the first lady wore her own clothes in the fashion-focused show and that show bosses “did not give her any special instructions.”

While Collins said Ms Macron had asked to appear on the show, the Élysée is said to have told French media that the request came from the show's producers.

This is not Mrs Macron’s first foray into the world of television.

In 2018, she made a brief appearance in a French comedy series about two disabled swimmers called “Vestiaires”, which translates to “dressing room”.

Earlier this year, French production company Gaumont announced it would produce a series about Mrs Macron’s life called “Brigitte, Une Femme Libre”.

The six-part series, which will air in 2025, “traces the romantic evolution of the First Lady,” according to the show's synopsis.

Part two of the fourth season of Emily in Paris is now streaming on Netflix.
