JEFF SEIDEL: Everything is fun for the young Detroit Tigers team. This is an advantage in the playoff push

Game Notes: The Tigers remained three games behind the Minnesota Twins in the battle for the American League's final wild-card playoff spot as both teams won on Wednesday night. However, the Twins have Thursday off after winning two of three games against the Angels, giving the Tigers a chance to move a half-game up in the standings with their ace on the mound.

Skubal will try to lead the Tigers to their first victory over the Rockies at Comerica Park since 2014. (To be fair, the Rox have only made one visit between then and now: a 2-1 series win in 2022, marked primarily by their only loss – the April 23, 2022 doubleheader opener in which Miguel Cabrera's 3,000th Career hit.)

The Rockies entered Tuesday's game with 1,434 strikeouts in 145 games, for an average of 9.89 strikeouts per game. They'll face the AL's strikeout leader, Skubal, who averages 7.43 strikeouts per start and 10.76 strikeouts per nine innings (second in the AL). We're not ones to advocate betting on strikeout totals, but if you do… take the over.

Feltner, the Rockies' starter, is a former player at That School Down South (also known as Ohio State, for those not interested in the eternal Michigan-Ohio rivalry) and is in the midst of his fourth major league season. He throws five pitches – a four-seam fastball, a slider, a changeup, a sinker and a curveball – fairly regularly, with the four-seam fastball, which averages 94.7 mph, being used most often, 35.2% of the time.

Following tonight's matinee finale, the Tigers welcome the Baltimore Orioles, who currently lead the AL wild-card standings, to Comerica Park for a three-game series that begins Friday night. The Rockies, meanwhile, head home to host the Chicago Cubs for a three-game series that also begins Friday.
